The month of December is always a festive one for our elementary students! Students have enjoyed Polar Express parties of hot cocoa with marshmallows and cookies, made ornaments and pins, decorated cookies, and had a glow dance party! Today, December 17, Principal Schmidt and Assistant Principal Young decorated themselves as Christmas trees for the Rocketeer assemblies, where our monthly Rocketeers are celebrated for their admirable traits of responsibility, respect, and problem solving. The assembly also featured a holiday sing-along!

Throughout this month, we have been celebrating Mindfulness, which is part of our Character Strength focus. Mindfulness is a mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, and can be used as a therapeutic technique, such as breathing or counting. Our students work on how to handle our emotions and be aware when our emotions are changing.

In addition, students are working to gather PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports) points to spend in our store and earn their parties. The quarterly reward for the top two highest PBIS points per grade were able to get their faces painted this month; thank you to our Fairy Godmother (Faith!) for always taking care of our Rockets. We look forward to a New Year of earning fun things to do for good behavior!
